missing film...

Lately I've been missing the imperfections of film. So many nuances existed with film that are now slipping away with the completion of the digital revolution in the photography industry. With the new year arriving, I hope to salvage some of the more classic looks film brought us...even if they are captured and produced digitally. Here, I've done my best to recreate the look of the old instant cameras people used to shoot everything from family events to vacation with. More to come in 2010!

missing film 2

In 2010, I hope to stop focusing entirely on every pixel being perfect in every image I produce, and get back to what's really important...content. So the color isn't perfect, and the tonal range is less than desirable, and there's too much yellow, and the shadows are muddy and purple, and it's borderline over-exposed, and there's dust spots that weren't meticulously retouched......I say, "So what!" There's beauty in the imperfect.

tough day | stl

This little guy is a friend of mine's son. He must have really been having a tough day. I felt pretty bad for him, but we eventually got some decent shots.

maryann | advance, mo

maryann is one of my oldest and dearest friends. our lives crossed for the first time when we hired on at wehrenberg theaters. we were sixteen. since then we've shared a lot together. in 2007, she allowed me the privilege of photographing her wedding. for me, this image represents her grace and beauty, and her inner strength i've come to appreciate over the years.
